This 3-day course provides you with hands-on experience installing and configuring the base infrastructure components of FlexPod. By the end of this course, you will have a detailed understanding of FlexPod’s architecture, the infrastructure components and base configuration. You will gain insight into the various hardware configurations supported by FlexPod and how those components integrate. This course will explore key FlexPod architectural components, options, and tools including:

  • Compute
  • Cisco Unified Computer System
  • Service Profiles
  • Converged Infrastructure
  • Cisco Nexus 5500
  • Storage

Upon completion of the course, you will be able to define the FlexPod reference architecture, solution components, and understand its inherent benefits. You will also gain hands-on experience installing and configuring a base FlexPod.

Lesson 2: Cisco Nexus 5548 Deployment—LAN

  • Identify the Cisco Nexus 5548 Switch initial setup and configuration process
  • Identify the Cisco Nexus 5548 Switch features that must be activated for successful FlexPod for VMware configuration
  • Examine the configuration steps for activating unified ports on the Cisco Nexus 5548 Switch
  • Explore the process to create and activate FlexPod for VMware VLANs
  • Understand the commands to create and validate a vPC domain, peer keepalive link, peer link, and virtual port channels on the Cisco Nexus 5548 Switch

Lesson 2: Deploying Clustered Data ONTAP Storage

  • Describe the initial steps to create a storage cluster

  • Examine logical interface (LIF) characteristics and implementation steps
  • Describe failover groups and cluster high availability (HA)

Module 4: FlexPod Compute In this module, you will learn about the Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS), including the available portfolio of products and Cisco UCS Manager. You will learn how to configure Cisco UCS fabric interconnects. You will learn the benefits of service profile use. The provisioning of servers will also be discussed:

  • Describe the features, architecture, and hardware of Cisco UCS, and how it interacts with FlexPod
  • Review how to deploy and configure Cisco UCS fabric interconnects
  • Learn the benefits of service profile creation
  • Understand the challenges and available solutions for provisioning servers

Lesson 1: Cisco Unified Computing System

  • Describe Cisco UCS B-Series architecture and components
  • Understand the benefits and features of Cisco UCS Manager, a single management application for configuring the Cisco UCS B-Series
  • Understand LAN connectivity requirements for a Cisco UCS B-Series cluster
  • Understand SAN connectivity requirements for a Cisco UCS B-Series cluster
  • Describe the performance of various connectivity options and basic operational features of Cisco UCS Manager
  • Compare the functionality of the Cisco UCS Manager GUI and CLI

Lesson 2: Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnect Configuration

  • Review the important parameters for successful Cisco UCS deployment and configuration
  • Identify the steps to configure the Cisco UCS chassis, interface, and management IP parameters
  • Understand how to validate Cisco UCS cluster connectivity
  • Perform a server blade discovery operation to ensure successful service profile association
  • Describe the process to reset and initialize the Cisco UCS cluster and fabric interconnects

Lesson 3: UCS Service Profiles

  • Describe the process to create sub-organizations and server pools
  • Understand the steps to configure resource identity pools

Lesson 4: Provisioning Servers

  • Explore provisioning challenges and solutions with Cisco UCS Director
  • Examine the process of creating a service profile from a template, which includes review of the process of associating service profiles with compute nodes and moving a logical server
  • Use keyboard, video, and mouse (KVM) and virtual media utilities to install software on a server

Module 5: Exploring FlexPod Solutions Examine the FlexPod Data Center Solution. You will understand the FlexPod solutions for VMware, Microsoft Private Cloud, Citrix Zen Desktop, Secure MultiTenancy, Oracle, SAP, and RedHat. Upon completing this module, you will be able to meet these objectives:
